Plan your turn

θ = 45° · d = 82.84 mm · 2d = 165.69 mm

Drag to rotate · pinch or scroll to zoom · Keep outer wall connected

Rotate around the retained outer-wall axis until the cut edges meet. Check the joint and provide a compatible fastening detail.

● Keep outer wall connected

Cut the V from the base and remove the matching inner-wall strip. Keep the outer wall at the V tip connected. Lengths are measured along that retained outer edge.

Where to measure

Width W is across the base, not side height. Before- and after-bend lengths are measured along the outer edge, from the bend axis to each end. The selected angle is the change in direction.

Formula and construction

For a symmetric V, half-width d = W × tan(θ / 2), full opening = 2d. This ideal construction removes a V-shaped base wedge and an inner-wall strip while retaining the outer wall as a fold axis.

Worked example

For W = 300 mm and θ = 45°, d ≈ 124.26 mm and 2d ≈ 248.53 mm. Changing side height changes the walls, not this base-notch width.

Method limits

Thin-sheet, zero-radius geometry. Kerf, rolled lips, bend allowance, cable radius, joint strength and fastener specifications are not calculated. The direction-change angle is not the remaining included angle. Use the actual tray manufacturer’s connection detail.
